Marketing, Networking and Building Relationship with Social and Business Networks

There are many Social and Business Networks on the internet today. You need to look around, find the ones that fit you. I joined Facebook, Home Based Business Community, Marza,Linkedin, some Moms groups, Meetup and will be joining Twitter. Each one has its own specialities and they can be linked from one to the other if you wish.

The best advise I have for everyone here is do your research and find the ones you want to join. But don't just join and talk about you. see how you can help them.

Hi Marge,

I agree with what you said. I've joined many social networking sites, and some feel like putting on an old comfortable shoe, while others are like new shoes with burrs in them.

Each of us has a different personality and level of technical abilities, not to mention expectations.

After trying various sites for weeks or months, I either canceled my membership, or made a long-term commitment to work within the site.

There are several that I joined and never really reached a tipping point, but they were too useful to cancel, such as Ryze, LinkedIn, and Apsense. Perhaps at a later time, I'll become more active on them.

Facebook is becoming one of my favorites along with several communities I've created here on Ning.com and other communities I've joined.

I'm looking forward to learning more from other members of this group. Thanks for starting it, Pat! Thanks for starting the discussion, Marge!

Act on your dream,

JD

Great point, Marge and I'll share why. Go to the majority of networking communities out there and pay attention to the flow of traffic and the postings and it will quickly become apparent that a huge number are there to be seen and want to promote their agenda.

The folks I am more apt to connect with consistantly are those that want to share ideas. Of fourse I want to be seen from a business standpoint but, I also want to be able to connect with others that you might know. The possibility exists that we may never become business partners so the only way I'll be able to reach them is through introduction. I'm certain the odds of you introducing me to any of your friends without having learned much about me are pretty slim until I've established an element of trust.

The fastest way for that to happen is by showing a sincere interest in others.

Thanks Gary,
Yes you are certainly right showing an interest in other people. Building relationships might take 3 to 4 months to kindle.
I realized something the other day when I was on facebook. And it is true in everything. When you make a comment about a subject you never have to sell anything. Just make sure that your profile is up to date, if they are ttuly interested in what you have said or did, they will come to you profile.

I just recently joined a networking homes group in raleigh,nc and today we were sharing ideas about how we can help each other - it was so productive and fun and excitement for our next meeting is already planned.
thanks. again for your comment.

Marge,

I love this quote from Seth Goden:

"Instead of looking for customers for your products, you seek out products (and services) for the tribe. Jerry Garcia understood this. Do you?"

. . . . .

My Thought about Seth's quote::

Ben & Jerry understands this, also!

Read what Seth Goden has to say about Tribe Management.

Gery,

You point is really a good one. You and I have never met in person, but I have "known" you at Ryze for years. I've followed your conversations, found your advice to be good, found you to be a caring, thoughtful person with good business sense. I wouldn't hesitate to introduce you to my contacts. And maybe one of them is a perfect match for who you are looking for.

The same for JD. We've "worked" together on several projects and I have found myself switching who I'm looking to for online advice more and more. JD is out front running with the big boys. He has a good grasp of what's happening online. And sometimes I even understand what he says...lol!! Not a reflection on his teaching skill...I'm just a really slow learner with this new stuff.

Hi Pat,

Based on your praise of Gery, I just sent him a friend request.

It's interesting that you say I'm out front when you've introduced me to several things I'd never heard of. I don't think you are giving yourself enough credit.

I think we're helping each other learn new things and do better in promoting our businesses and meeting other like-minded people.

It's always a pleasure.

JD
